PLASTY OF SHORT FRENUM
The frenulum is located on the underside of the male penis. It is a piece of skin that connects the head of the penis (glans) to the foreskin. Its task is to allow the foreskin to be pulled back so that the glans is exposed.
Some men are born with an anatomical defect, which is a too short frenulum of the penis. It can affect the aesthetic perception of the organ (deformation of the glans by pulling its top towards the base of the penis), but also the quality of sexual life. A shortened frenulum can, among other things, cause discomfort during sexual intercourse. For this reason, many men decide to remove the problem surgically.
What is a short frenulum?
A short frenulum is a congenital or acquired abnormality in the anatomical structure of the penis, occurring when the thin, triangular fold of connective tissue running from the foreskin to the glans is too short and prevents the foreskin from being retracted during erection and flaccidity. It often occurs with phimosis (significant narrowing of the foreskin, leading to difficulty in retracting it from the glans). A frenulum that is too short also causes the penis to curve during erection, which in turn creates difficulty in retracting the foreskin, generating discomfort during intercourse.

Indications for frenulum resection
A short frenulum is a common condition in urological practice that can cause dyspareunia, premature ejaculation, and even predispose to traumatic tearing. Frenulum resection may be indicated if a short frenulum impedes proper retraction of the foreskin, hygiene, or causes discomfort. Surgical treatment also allows for obtaining satisfactory aesthetic results.
The severity of symptoms and disorders that may be an indication for surgical treatment depends on the severity of the problem - from discomfort and slight pain during retraction of the foreskin to preventing full exposure of the glans. A short frenulum may impede compliance with hygiene rules and hygiene procedures, which increases the risk of inflammation and their complications. Pain and tissue tearing during sexual activity can be a source of frustration and anxiety before the next intercourse. A short frenulum can also make it difficult to control arousal - pulling on the glans during an erection and overstimulation of the frenulum during intercourse can contribute to premature ejaculation.
In case of trauma and tissue tearing during intercourse, very heavy bleeding can occur, which is often an indication for urgent emergency surgery.
What does a short frenulum plastic surgery look like?
A short frenulum plastic surgery is a surgical procedure that involves lengthening or removing the short frenulum of the penis. The frenulum is a thin fold of skin that connects the underside of the glans penis to the foreskin. In some men, a frenulum that is too short can lead to pain, tears, and restricted mobility of the foreskin, which affects sexual comfort.
Why is it worth considering this procedure?
- Reduced pain and discomfort: Plastic surgery helps eliminate pain during erection and sexual intercourse.
- Improved hygiene: It makes it easier to maintain proper penile hygiene, which can reduce the risk of infection.
- Increased sexual satisfaction: Removing the restrictions associated with a short frenulum can positively affect sexual experience.
What does the procedure look like
Consultation
During the initial consultation, the procedure plan is established. The expected effects and possible side effects of the procedure are discussed. Contraindications to the surgical procedure are also ruled out.
Procedure
The short frenulum correction surgery is a surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia. After anesthesia, the frenulum is incised and appropriately sutured so that the resulting scar imitates the frenulum. A transverse incision of the frenulum is made and sutures are placed using a method that allows for the correction of skin deficiency. The sutures are completely dissolvable, so they do not need to be removed, which means there is no additional pain associated with it.
The doctor performs a surgical incision and lengthening of the frenulum while applying local anesthesia.
The procedure is short, from a dozen to several dozen minutes.
The procedure is a one-time procedure and does not require repetition.
Final consultation
If non-absorbable sutures are used to close the post-procedure wound, the patient must come to have them removed approximately 10-14 days after the procedure.
The short frenulum plastic surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes. The procedure involves incising and lengthening the frenulum, which allows it to relax and increase its elasticity. Convalescence is usually short, and patients can return to normal activity within a few days. The post-procedure wound heals in about 7-10 days. For the period indicated by the doctor (approx. 4-5 weeks) until the post-operative wound has completely healed, sexual abstinence should be maintained.
After the procedure:
After a short frenulum plastic surgery, patients can expect minimal discomfort, which is easily controlled with prescribed pain medications. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions regarding hygiene and post-operative care to ensure proper healing.
