PLASTY OF A TEARED EARLOBE

The auricle, or more precisely its shape, is unique to each person, similar to the fingerprints on the palm of the hand. Today, this part of the body is used not only for hearing, but also as a decorative element and a manifestation of personal style. People often wear earrings or tunnels, which can be both aesthetic and expressive. Unfortunately, in the case of large and heavy jewelry, the structure of the ear is often torn or even completely broken. Also, removing the tunnels leaves a mark on the auricle in the form of an unsightly, stretched fragment of tissue. In such situations, earlobe reconstruction becomes necessary, which aims to restore its original appearance and function.
What is earlobe reconstruction?

Earlobe reconstruction is a surgical procedure that involves the appropriate preparation and removal of excess skin, and then suturing the wound in the least visible way possible. It is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes about an hour. Single, thin stitches are used, which are removed during the first check-up visit approximately 7 days after the procedure. A key element before starting the surgery is a prior consultation with a doctor who will assess the patient's health and the indications for the procedure.
Indications for plastic surgery of a torn earlobe:
- Partial or complete rupture of the earlobe associated with trauma or wearing large/heavy earrings.
- Earlobe defect after removal of large tunnels.
Procedure:
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves the removal of a fragment of tissue or correction of the deformation of the earlobe. In the case of extensive tissue loss, more advanced reconstruction may be necessary, including reconstruction of the anterior and posterior surfaces of the lobe (Gavella method). The stitches are removed during a check-up, usually between 7 and 10 days after the surgery.
Post-surgery recommendations:
After the procedure, you may experience pain, which usually lasts for 2-3 days. This can be effectively relieved by taking painkillers prescribed by your doctor. The dressing is usually worn for a week. In the first few days after the surgery, swelling and redness of the auricles are possible, but these symptoms usually disappear completely within 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
Contraindications:
- Tendency to hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation
- Pregnancy
- Severe cardiovascular diseases with arrhythmia and hypertension
- Anticoagulant therapy
- Active viral or bacterial infections in the area of the planned procedure
Earlobe reconstruction is a procedure that not only improves the aesthetics of the auricle, but also affects the psyche of patients, allowing them to regain self-confidence and normal functioning in society. Thanks to modern surgical techniques and an appropriate approach to the patient, the effects of the procedure are usually very satisfactory and long-lasting.
